Team NSAF Select 4 Texans to compete in Cuba
With the 2017 Texas high school track season being over, a selected few will compete this summer in some major meets across the country. During the Memorial Day weekend, 4 of our very own will be representing not only the great state of Texas, but this wonderful country we call The United States Of America.
Mansfield Lakeridge's Jasmine Moore, Leopard's Kelcie Simmons, Houston Langham Creek's Eric Edwards and Kennedale's Alexis Brown, have been selected to the Team NSAF to compete in Cuba at the Caribbean Scholastic Invitational (CSI). 28 athletes (14 Girls and 14 Boys) were selected to the team from across the country. It is a great honor and a wonderful opportunity for these 4 to experience. Past Texans to compete in this meet were Houston Lamar's Milan Young, Saginaw's Jalen Seals and Mesquite Horn's Kaylor Harris just to name a few.
This will be the first time that these athletes will compete outside the country and they are very excited. "I'm very excited, it's definitely something I've been looking forward too, I'm just truly blessed to be able to have this kind of opportunity! I'm looking forward to meeting new people and just seeing the country of Cuba, it should be really fun and a great experience!" stated sophomore sensation Alexis.
Jasmine is looking forward to see how well she stacks up against rest of the world. "I'm excited for the opportunity to compete against some of the best jumpers in the world. Although I am a little nervous because this is my first time competing outside the country and have international competition, it will be a great experience!!" said Moore.
Kelcie is looking to take advantage of this shocking opportunity. "This opportunity is extremely exciting, I wasn't expecting it. It will be a great growing experience for me not only athletically but as a person. And I'm looking forward to the connections I will make with the other athletes and coaches/trainers and the exposure to international competition!" Simmons said.
Edwards knows how great of an opportunity this is for him. "The opportunity is such a blessing! This is a huge milestone in my career, I am beyond excited like I just can't wait. Being a selected 28 juniors out of the whole United States is so amazing and I just have to thank God for my success. I look forward to the trip it self. I have only been outside the country once but I was so young and I know I'm going to be competeing with the best in the United States and world!" stated Edwards.
Competition will run May 26-28 2017. We here at Inside Texas Track would like to wish our Texas Fantastic 4 good luck. .
